Austria Shuts Down Rhodesia 2-0

In a hard fought victory the Austrians came out as the superior team in Rhodesia, winning the match 2-0. Scoring for the Austrians were: #5 Karl Schmid (Min 30) and #1 Felix Kohler (Min 83). The outstanding young keeper, Adi Schwarz, made miraculous saves against a relentless offense and held off the Rhodesian assault like an iron wall proving how skilled he truly is and upholding his status as the best keeper in the world. He is called "Die Stahlwand," or "The Steel Wall," by his fans and teammates... and rightfully so. Austria's next match will be away against KaNgwane as Austria continues their road trip.

Stalemate in Charlottesville

Captain Adi "Die Stahlwand" Schwarz, clean-sheeted the top notch KaNgwane offense again in their second game, but in the end he couldn't get any help from the offense and the game finished in a deadlock at nil all. Again, Schwarz showed the world why he is worthy of his nickname "The Steel Wall" as he made some spectacular saves in key situations. Veteran and fan favorite, Center Attack Mid Felix Kohler, issued the following statement, "Adi did his job, you know? In the end myself and the other scorers couldn't come through. I had some pretty lazy shots and I missed a couple of opportunities and, in all honesty, the only ones who showed up today were the defense. We gotta practice hard the next few days and get ready for Israel. I think they are very underrated and if we don't bring our game we're gonna get overturned." Austria will travel to Tel Aviv for their next road game against the Israelis.

Jankowski On IR

Austrian team medical staff reports the Forward Julian Jankowski, who left the KaNgwane game with an injury, has a torn ACL. Surgery is scheduled for Sunday and Jankowski will be out for at least 6 months. This could be a devastating blow to the Austrian team's morale as Jankowski is one of the veteran players on the team and thus one of the team leaders. We will see how the Austrian offense can play with such a key player out. Coaches have stated that Forward #14 Helmut Lehner will be his replacement.

Season Opener Extends Drought

Austria, who is officially 0-1-0 after their season opener extended their offensive drought to 3 games against Praugsia. However, "Die Stahlwand" also continued his heroic keeper play and so far has not allowed a ball past him, he and the defense now rolling on a 4 clean-sheet streak. Austria will host Xibeiguo in their next home match.

5th Clean-Sheet for Schwarz, Austria Victorious 1-0

Austria came out as the victor in their home game against Xibeiguo scoring one goal late in the game. Scoring for Austria was forward Wilbur Reinhart (min 76) who sneaked one by the Xibei keeper. Adi Schwarz has not been scored on in five games now, an impressive number to say the least.

Schwarz In Spotlight; "Die Schwarzsocken" Favorites in 2010

Last night an interview with Austrian Captain, Keeper Adi Schwarz, proved why he is the the leader of the National Squad, his cool demeanor and level headed approach make him the man for the job. This interview reassured the world that this bath in the spotlight will not affect his performance on the field, this shutting up the critics who claimed the celebrity status would destroy his work ethic.

Coach Wolf, who was interviewed this morning, said this, "Adi and Felix [Kohler] keep this team running. The two of them lay down the law when its needed and give the guys that needed pick me up. The two of them make a great team as captains, Adi providing the youthful energy and Felix providing the veteran know-how. I think Adi has earned his time on the stage and he is handling it quite well, putting more hard work in at practices and focusing even more than before. If anything this media attention is making him better."

The whole team seems to be handling the hype very well, understanding they are the favorites, but still being realistic about it. First-time-call-up, young Center Back Bojan Krajnc, said this, "Yeah, I mean, the pressure is intense and the hype is amazing. But we have to be honest with ourselves... We can lose to anyone on any given day. Honestly, it's hard for a rookie to handle all of this but the captains are pulling us through it. We rally on them."

Schwarz, Austrian Golden-Boy; 1-0 Over Finns in Friendly
Adi Schwarz, the 24 year old national hero and co-captain of the Austrian squad, held off the Finnish team, even in a hailstorm of shots. Today's friendly match showed us all why so much hype follows this kid, he makes goal keeping look like the easiest job in the world, and, standing an imposing six feet three inches, Schwarz makes a tough wall to beat on the pitch. The rest of the team seemed to disappoint, however, until the other captain, 31 year old veteran attack-mid, Felix Kohler, got a perfectly placed pass from first-time call-up, Forward István Nagy came rolling across the box.

"Die Schwarzsocken" (The Black Socks), as they are lovingly called by the Austrian fans, will no doubt prepare for the upcoming games and will start back to training tomorrow morning.

Favorites for a Reason; Jankowski, Eder Score
A hard fought World Cup opener yields a win for the Austrian juggernaut, who dominated play against the United Norse Federation. Scoring for the Austrians were the seventeen year old forward Brock Eder (64:09) and Julian Jankowski (78:44), both goals coming off of assists from the veteran Center Attack Mid, Felix Kohler. ASP caught up with Kohler after the game and he said this when asked about what had them so fired up, "Well, honestly, Adi had a great speech yesterday and I really think he had them fired up, you know? He's really an inspiration to all of us, even us old guys! (laughs) But seriously, we just showed up today prepared to play. We knew they wouldn't just roll over, it would take a good team effort to get past them. Really it was a lot more competitive than it looked, because they really put heart into every play. We just outplayed them." And indeed the Austrians did outplay them. We are looking forward with high hopes for the Austrians.

The Invincible Schwarz?
Twenty-four year old Austrian national hero, ladies man, footballer, superstar and philanthropist... What's next? Rockstar? When we questioned Austrian Keeper, Adi Schwarz on the subject he said he did play guitar and was thinking about recording an album during the off season to be sold for charity. Is there anything this kid can't do?! Letting goals in doesn't seem to be something he can do. Die Stahlwand, showed up to play again Sunday, proving why all the hype follows him. Now the world record holder with twenty saves in a game, this young ace seems to have found the rhythm. So far in the World Cup he and his defense have racked up four clean sheets, one for every game they have played so far. With this kind of performance it is likely that he could also break another record, least goals conceded in one tournament by the champions, which currently sits at 2.

Tomorrow's match against Finland should prove interesting enough, though the Finns did test the Austrians in the opening friendly, they eventually walked on to victory. This should prove to be the case again providing the team shows up to play as a cohesive unit, which, again hasn't failed to happen so far. Either way, win or lose, this year's performance by the Austrian squad has been nothing less than entertainment at its best and should be one for the ages, one of those tournaments that will have the fans and experts talking for many years to come, all thanks to the big bruiser in the box.
