A disputed territory doesn't seem the best place to hold an international event. Nevertheless, we would be willing to send our football club to the tournament.

OOC: National teams in RL don't have official nicknames; personally I don't bother with them, lest they sound incredibly corny.

Is it too late to send the Byzantine National team?

They are aboard the plan to Assyria, waiting on the airport runway for confirmation.

The countries star striker Waynios Roonoi is among them.

A dead silence falls across the massive stadium on the island of Socotra as a single man dressed in bright red makes his way onto the field. Stands are packed with fans of every nation, each with their special section. Riot police are in evidence but for the moment, not a sound. The air seems to hum with energy and anticipation. The man in red does a slow turn then suddenly his voice blares across the stadium.

"Ladies and Gentlemen! Welcome to the worlds first Assyrian Football Tournament!"

Fireworks scream into the air as the stadium explodes with a the roars of fans. Chants fill the air and feet pound of metal bleachers until the very stadium itself seems to shake. Flags of the nations in attendance are so thick in some places you can not even see the crowd.

"First we welcome the Assyrian National Team!"

The Assyrian Anthem blasts out over the loudspeakers and the home fans sing along with gusto as the home team jogs onto the field to take up their place at centre.

"Now please welcome the teams from around the world! New Aleksandrovsk!"

The New Aleksandrovsk team appears to cheers from their own supporters and boo's from others.

"Askum!"

Cheers greet the Askum team as they jog out to the left of the Assyrians to roars of approval from their fans, many of whom only live hours away, and jeers from the Assyrian supporters.

"Latinia!"

Chants of "Latinia" shake the air now, the team running out to join the Aleksandrovsk team on the right of Assyria.

"Russia!"

The Russian home team heads onto the field, its supporters madly waving flags and bellowing at the top of their lungs even as the Aleksandrovsk fans jeer from across the stadium.

"Praugsia!"

A mixed reaction greets this team as it appears. Boo's, cheers and roars of approval mix the air.

"Warlordia!"

Warlordian fans scream in delirious delight as their team appears and other fans clap politely or not at all. It seems that supplying arms to kill the world can sometimes work against you.

"Byzantium!"

A new team from a new nation is greeted by all with cheers as they make the final team to come onto the field. The voice rips through the air again, silencing the crowds.

"Please stand and join us in singing Assyria's national anthem."

As fans stand and jostle for position the anthem begins. Assyrian fans proudly continue to cheer and wave their banners as they sing. For those who don't speak Arabic it is an odd moment...

Sarei Lil Majd Walalya
Majjedi Le Khaleg Assama
Warfai El Khaffag Akhdar
Yahmil Annoor al mosattar
Raddedy Allah Wakbar
Yamawteni Mawtenii Gad
Isht Fakhr Al Moslemeen
Aash Al Maleek Lelalam Walwatan.

As the anthem comes to an end the cheering begins again, the man in reds voice ehcoing to their ears.

"Let the Tournament begin!"

The crowds roar threatens to sweep the man off his feet as it resounds into the night air, echoing across the water to reach even the Assyrian warships shadowing the Hiiraanese navy just miles away. The teams begin to leave the field, only Russia and Praugsia remain, the first game is about to begin.

OOC: So, feel free to post as a fan, or fans, or a player on a team. Each game will get a day for folks to post then I will declare a winner (chosen by a random dice roll, sorry, not the best way but fair.). Then the next game will be announced! Enjoy!

Rest be assured that the People's Republic of Hiiraan is doing all it can to avoid conflict with the current dispute with Assyria on the Occupied Island of Socotra. However, we can never promise a peaceful tournament under these circumstances.

Hiiraan will neither send its team to Socotra under Assyrian Flag nor do we want any other team to be there. We ask all of our allies to pull out of the tournament, as well as any team there, for the safety of their athletes. although Hiiraan will never anything that jeopardizes human life, we are worried that the Assyrians do not have the same values.

Again, we do so politely ask our allies to at least pull out of this tournament for the safety of their athletes is in grave danger in times like this.

Warlordia considers it to be in no danger whatsoever since we are officially allied to no one.

The first game of the tournament between Russia and Praugsia began with an earth shattering cheer from the crowd as the Praugsian's took first possession of the ball. They moved swiflty down the left field and within two minutes of the opening kick they nailed a shot off the cross bar.

The attack continued as the Russians struggled to clear their end for the first ten minutes, two more clear at the net shots being knocked aside by an increasingly frustrated Russian keeper. Then, at 23 minutes into the game, the Russians managed to clear the ball and break free of their own end with a solid break away. A foul in the Praugsiaan end brings a penalty shot for the Russians and a goal to put the Russians up by one.

As if to add insult to injury the Russians score their second marker only five minutes later, the stadium pulsating with the cheers and jeer of all fans.

The remainder of the first half passed without incident, neither side able to generate another decent scoring opportunity, the whistle sounding to send the teams to the dressing room, Russia leading by a score of 2-0.

The second begins like the tail end of the first. Both sides battling in mid-field with no real opportunity until a delicate pass from a mid fielder sneaks through and the Praugsian's firing a blistering shot into the back of the Russian net.

The Russians are once again forced on the defensive, desperatly battling to keep the Praugsian's from shooting. One shot, a sure thing from the looks of it is deflected by the goalies finger tips as he desperatly reaches out.

The game finally draws to a close, the Russians victorious, 2-1.

Join us tomorrow for the next game between Assyria and Warlordia!
