Victory in Madagascar!

All KaNgwanese forces in Madagascar have finally disbanded. The Confederate and Coalition forces have claimed total victory in the Indian Ocean Theatre. There is much to be done to restore Madagascar, and it will be occupied by Coalition troops for a long duration of time. Confederate investors have expressed much interest in investing in the southlands, now perhaps not such an insane investment since the war's end.

Now under Mfasan and Rhodesian occupation, there is question of how post bellum KaNgwane will look.

A Rift Worse than the Hala'ib Triangle?

Halāʾib, Liberated Republic of Port Sudan -- A place of conflict for Egypt and Sudan for many years, the Hala'ib Triangle, the small area of disputed territory along the Northeastern border between the two nations pales comparative to the current rift that is becoming between the Confederate Republics and Glashima.

Ever since the KweKwe Sectaryship and the NSR exodus from the AU, Mitchell Lee has strived as AUSG to rebuild the organization with resistance from once important and active northern members. However, despite the great help Glashima has been in the world conflicts, in recent times, Glashiman opinion has overridden AU opinions and mandates. Political analysts are worried that a world polarized between the AU and the HoI would see terrible relations and irresolution of conflicts. Not to mention that in nations that are members of both organizations would be irreparably torn apart by forces from both sides.

AU Promises to Ensure Fair Elections Worldwide!

Kilgali, Rwanda-- The African Union Election Fairness Directive was issued by AUSG Mitchell Lee at 14:00 local Rwanda time. It promises that the AU will fairly review all votes for unity with another country from a province, or votes secession from an existing state. Such elections have always been a point of concern, as occupying soldiers or angry rebels can forcibly influence elections in provinces of dispute. For a truly fair election, there must be no intimidation, no discrimination, high enough voter turnout, and a secret ballot, otherwise, the election outcome could be influenced by outside forces.

Many Confederates remember the shamed elections of Sudan, and the disputed outcomes from the Kenyan elections, and have heard of the questionably of elections in the south, and the AU further promises to ensure these are fair as well if and the electorate need only ask to have the internal election reviewed! Today is truly a great step forward for true democracy! If there is someone watching over the votes like a guardian angel to make sure people are safe and free to exercise this inalienable right to their fullest extent!

Arch Chancellor to Give Medal to All Who Served

Kosti, Republic of the Sudd, Sudanese Administrative Territory, Confederate Republics -- Arch Chancellor Mitchell Lee annoucned today that the Department of Defense had decided to give every soldier who served in the KaNgwanese conflict a medal to commemorate their service to "...the greater good of the world." He said that the medals would be presented to soldiers still in the field as well. Most surprising about this award is that it is not exclusive to Confederates. The medals will be sent to all countries which contributed to the war effort to be presented to their soldiers who served by their governments and militaries. The Arch Chancellor said that he thought it a great way to begin to show thanks to those who "...fought valiantly against oppression..." He went on to say that "...no matter what materials we give them, no matter how beautiful, the true thanks will come from the appreciation and respect we show those who fought to make the world a better place to live."

Blasted Beylorussians!

Aleksandrgrad, Beylorussia -- The situation in the beginning Beylorussian free republic has been stunted by a communist coup. The President of the former free regime has been arrested, coerced into a guilty plea at gunpoint, and forced to serve out live in prison.

Any one who does not agree completely with the Fascists has been rounded up and arrested. Haebus corpus and all other due processes have been suspended, and non-fascists are being taken to remote camps in the mountians where no one is allowed execpt military personnel.

All other political parties have been banned, and freedoms stripped from the citizens of Byelorussia. Freedom of travel has been severely restricted, and said to be anti-communist, the government has taken over all major corporations.

RNC Correspondent Dick Donahue interviewed a Beylorussian in her 50's woman whose identity we cannot reveal and who had this to say: "I was so hopeful for the Republic. Those elections were the first time I'd ever voted in my life, I was so happy to get to use a secret ballot and not have fear of Government agents knocking at my door because of how I felt about the world. Now, the fascists have stripped that from me, my children and my grandchildren. I hurts even more now that I have had it and then had all that vanish. I'd do anything to have that freedom and security back. I'd have a few choice words for Mr. Pyotr Tymmshenko if I ever saw him."

The bold and brave Vice Arch Chancellor made a written and impromptu speech on the subject, promising corrective action on the matter. Swearing that he would not let the Beylorussian people be denied their inalienable rights. Truly a story that makes one glad to live in the Confederate Republics, where everyone is free to live, travel, and think as they would like without any fear.

Man Lights Up Pot, Courts, Nation

Kosti, Confederate Republics-- In a fury of appeals that started with a small time drug bust in Mombasa, one Harry Bolt, a Jamaican Immigrant and local musician, has, with the help of the man acclaimed to be the Confederacy's best defense attorney, Rasher Patel (who took the case Pro Bono because of the principle of it), brought the old standard drug prohibition laws into question.

The main defense is that if the Confederate Republics truly constitute a free country, then its constituents should be free to do with themselves what they wish. This philosophical defense has caught the ear of many politicians and judges, most importantly, Chief Justice Ray Savan. While Savan has not made any official statements yet, it is rumored that he is in support of doing away with the taboo drug laws. No word have come from the Arch Chancellor himself, however, the Vice Arch Chancellor did hint in a recent press conference that he too was siding with the defense.

Even the Islamic Conservative Federation, a political pressure group popular in the Northern SAT, is split, if unevenly, on the issue. Roughly 30% of the registered members of the ICF are calling for the abolition of drug laws.

Ironically, it is estimated that the groups most opposed are drug dealers and those who are already addicted to drugs and get them through a dealer. One addict who did not wish to be named had this to say: "Yea man, totally. If they like uuh...ya know, make this stuff legal, then they'll tax it and [stuff], and my [friendly] dealer won't be able to cut me a bulk rate any more and [these drugs] will cost more and [stuff]..."

WAR!

After never resolving differences after the invasion of Madagascar by KaNgwane several months ago, tensions finally reached a breaking point in the Comoros only nights ago. After two foiled nuclear attacks by KaNgwane, the Confederacy struck back. The northern defensive line of KaNgwane, the originally named, "Botha Line", was the target of a major biological attack with a very controllable agent.

Thus, the long standing anti-WMD policy of the Confederate Government may have fallen within a day, now, even more obliterated due to rumors of a completed nuclear weapon. Many fear that KaNgwane will again use such a weapon upon the CR and that this time the CR may not be as lucky. However, the hope is that the threat of double annihilation will scare either side into not using the weapons.

Since declaring war, Arch Chancellor Lee has stated little, save for in a signed letter to the public stating generally that he knew what he was doing and he hated to do it, but he knew that good would prevail over the evil of KaNgwane.

Zagreb Nuked!

Late this evening a nuclear device was detonated in the Praugusian capital of Zagreb. The culprit is unknown but suspected to be an attack of Byelorussian or Byzantine origin. As the communist leader Thugo Sedar was killed in the blast along with many of his aids and Confederate Ambassador to Praugusia James Ferdinand. Little detail is known of the blast except that it was a a small device probably below 10 kilotons in size. Few reports have come out of Praugusia and no one yet knows the fate of the government of that nation.

RNC will provide more details as this breaking story develops.

Bearing on Beria

Today in Mozambique, the liberation forces of the Victoria Leauge, especially the Confederate forces, faced stiff counter attacks from the KaNgwanese. After a failed surprise attack across the River Punge left Confederate forces in retreat for the first time since the Revolution, the counterattack to retake Beira began. It has lasted for quite some time now and the forces remain virtually stalemated. In typical KaNgwanese brutality, they have already began to use chemical weapons upon the Confederate troops. This has not broken the Confederate defenses however, still preventing the KaNgwanese from establishing a beach head on the north side of the river. However, most damaging is probably the constant naval bombardment by KaNgwanese ships. RNC will keep you updated on the status of this developing story.

Conservative Muslims Question Wartime Workplace

With many more men than women being drafted, the government has taken the step of asking women to work in factories and other industrial positions to help to sustain the war effort. Some older conservative Muslim leaders in Sudan have raised an objection to this idea. It has not been too sustained in the mainstream community however, as the need to win this victory for democracy has been made overtly clear by the government and by the revelation of human rights abuses in KaNgwane.

Revolution in Danish Commonwealth

The latest reports from the Danish Commonwealth and Europe indicate that rebel factions tired of the long bouts of inactivity, indecision, and ineptitude of the Danish government have seized control of parts of the military and economic infrastructure, most notably the profitable oil rigs in the North Sea.

Latest reports indicate that they have moved to call their new vision for the Danish Commonwealth the "Nordic Union" and that they are led by a singular leader, one William Bismark. More updates as they emerge

PEACE!

Today in Pantycellen a peace treaty was finally brokered between KaNgwane and the Victoria League Nations. This markes the end to a long and bloody conflict which had lost much public support and was becoming a massive strain on the economy. Several parades were had in Kosti, Khartoum, Nairobi, Mombassa, and Kampala.

FIFA Revival

Soccer fans nationwide, indeed, worldwide celebrated today as a revival of the international Futbol organization, known as FIFA, was finally revived after being destroyed by international tensions years ago. Israel easily acquired the rights to the defunct organization and restarted it with a headquarters in Jerusalem. The holy city has been quiet for some time since it fell to Babylon and now has risen rather quietly to be the capital of a new Israeli state.

Despite the administration's hesitations with dealing with previous Israeli governments, and indeed, still in dealing with the new one, Lee authorized that the Confederate Republics join the new FIFA almost immediately. The CR was only the third country to do so. The national stadium has been selected to be the newly upgraded Nairobi City Stadium, in Nairobi, Kenya.

This is exciting news not only in the sports world but because it shows that countries are willing to peacefully cooperate. There is good hope that more and more countries will join the new FIFA and soon there will be a good international competition.

Terran Federation Emerges

Today, there was a huge surprise at the Terran Federation Mission Statement Ceremony in Manyani, a city in the middle of Tsavo National Park, and came out as a united front for almost all environmental movements in the CR.

"To protect nature, all parts, and demonstrate how everything on Terra is connected and to strengthen, restore and improve those connections." Read the mission statement as Ala al-Din Izz-ud-Din, or just "Al" as most everyone calls him, recited it.

However, everyone was aware that this was going to happen. What was unexpected was the Arch Chancellor standing in the background and then coming forward and giving his endorsement to the Terran Federation.

It was expected that the TF would come to be a major political counter current, as it praises economic planning and sustainability and Al has been know to highlight the demerits of unbarred capitalism. However, the AC gave his endorsement to the TF saying:

"The Terran Federation has a grand vision of a world with an environment that has been saved, and they know how to accomplish this objective. I say that if we cannot save the environment and in turn save ourselves from ecological suicide then we have no hope as a species. The Terran Federation's goals show that there is hope, that we can and we will have a future that is harmonious with the environment."

This came to much applause and excitement as the nation anticipates what this means for CR politics.

New Community in Homa Bay Set to Have Grand Opening

"This changes everything," Says the Elected Chief of the city of Homa Bay,  Sanaa Aberash, "this is living on a whole different level than humans ever have."

What Ms. Aberash is describing is the experimental community known colloquially as the The Livetree. After Kenya joined the CR, Homa Bay was home to the largest rebel group in Confederate history. Staunchly resistant, the short fight leveled the city and many worried the area would never recover and toxic spills were threatening the nearby Ruma National Park.

However, Ms. Aberash founded and lead the Save our Homa movement which cleaned and rebuilt the city in her vision.

"Yes, I had a vision for the city, indeed, it is my vision of how humanity should really live. And well, needless to say, its a little different."

And one look at the new Homa Bay makes that clear. It is hard to tell human structures from the newly planted and transplanted trees that cover the area in a weaving pattern of biodiversity intended to mimic the areas original flora and fauna. However, a closer look reveals a new idea.

Neatly marked out, but placed in harmony with the rest of the natural habitat, are various ways of living all outdoors. Mostly, there are hemp woven hammocks, with a method of closing and completely sealing out water if fully closed. They are strung with ropes around trees that have some stretch and can be easily expanded so as to not choke the trees as they grow.

Interconnectedness is the theme of this way of life as Ms. Aberash has made a reality, but there were stumbling blocks as she describes here:

"It is really a beautiful idea, a human level of connectedness to nature and each other that has not been seen in thousands of years. The hard part was balancing things though. People still are going to want their modern convinces. But we want to live in harmony with the Earth. But, we used some very creative methods to get this balance achieved."

Indeed, there is superb engineering in every facet of the forest community. Underneath the natural camouflage is a vibrant, modern, functioning city. Weatherproof electronics are hung by every tree, on any branch that can support one, there is a solar panel of some size, and woven in to the spaces between the trees are shoppes made of various sustainable structures and recycled materials. Eateries, clothing stores, electronics stores, corporate offices, they all exist in Homa Bay, but they are so far gone from what is accepted as normal in a modern city that it stands to baffle the mind.

"Really, with the population controls and economic controls, poverty and hunger will not exist in this type of community."

Indeed, it is carefully calculated how much each person is expected to contribute and consume, cradle to grave. This has mean hard line population controls in order to make sure resources do not get mis-distributed. Indeed, until the trees grow and more hammocks and other structures, the population limit on the Homa Bay community is 5,000. That is nearly full, with reports as as many as 4100 residents already registered. The next population opening is expected to be in three years. And it will be based on multiple factors.

"Eventually, in no less than 20 years, a naturally occurring balance will probably work out and make having the controls so strict unnecessary. Indeed, I think this is how people are supposed to live, and time will really tell."

Mauritius Independence Official, Protection Pact Already in the Works.

As of 2 April 2010, Mauritius voted to become an independent republic. Over the past week Confederate Forces have been steadily withdrawing and handing over the controls to the new government.

However, a small independent republic like the new Free Federation of Mauritius could fall prey to a predatory imperial nation, such as the Great Lion to the south. Moving quickly, the CR has already drafted a mutual protection pact with Mauritius that vows that should the Mauritius government ever be threatened by forces internal or external the CR would come to aid the Island and whatever way necessary.

RNC will bring you continuing updates on this developing story.

CR Heavily Restricts Trade with East Xibeiguo after nuclear tests; Encourages VL to do the same.

After above ground nuclear tests which have proved hazardous to the environment and to human health, the Confederate Council passed CRR 115 which reads as follows:

The Council of the Confederate Republics assembled hereby resolves

(1) That the state of East Xibeiguo has violated sensible environmental care protocols and endangered human lives in their nuclear testing by conducting multiple above ground tests.

(2) We shall not infringe upon the right of other nations to acquire nuclear weapons but for safety and environmental reasons all tests should be conducted underground.

(3) Because of this willful violation, we shall enact trade sanctions upon the state of East Xiebeiguo including but not limited to:

a. The state of East Xiebeiguo shall not be allowed to receive any oil from the Confederate Republics.
b. All tariffs on Xeibi goods shall be raised to 25%.
c. The state of East Xiebeiguo shall not be allowed to receive any automobiles from the Confederate Republics.
d. The state of East Xiebeiguo shall not be allowed to receive any military equipment from the Confederate Republics.

Passed Unanimously.

Signed,

Mitchell Lee,
Arch Chancellor,
15:23, 2 June 2010

After the passage of this resolution, the CR was quick to convene a video conference of the leaders of other VL nations during with most agreed to similar sanctions or even full embargoes until EX apologizes and cleans up the results of the above ground nuclear tests.

Sauda Motors Company successfully tests auto driver car.

Millions of Marks have been spent on the Bara Bara Highway and even more than a normal highway of its caliber because of thousands and thousands of small metal receptors embedded into the pavement equally spaced three meters apart and each numbered. The purpose of those expensive receptors was shown fully today as a Sauda Keystone drove down the highway.

By itself that is, with no driver and no remote control, the car was told by the first highway receptor to set a speed and course, and then drove off on its own until it reached the 500th receptor which told it to stop gently. The test run was perfect and all new Sauda's will have this functionality. So on the Bara Bara highway, there will be no need for a driver, thus making a strenuous drive a great time for a movie or a nap.

Real Constitution Proposed in the Council

Today, the Arch Chancellor presented a new bill before the Council. However, in a manner that is most unlike him, he made not further comment after the bill's introduction, except that he was overheard saying, "The bill is a way to self governance, they better start figuring that one out now.

The bill, which if passes will be a binding law that will implement a new constitution on March 1st, sets out outlines for the governing of the nation that the current Articles of Confederation only hint at. For example, whereas the Articles only say that the Arch Chancellor is the leader of the Confederacy, the Constitution Bill puts specific limits on his power and term. Furthermore, were the Articles say only that there must be a representative council, the Constitution puts specific numbers and outlines on how it should be formed and executed and places limits on its power, it also regulates the courts instead of just establishing them. Both the Articles and the Constitution reaffirm the rights of the People and the Republics, though the Constitution gives considerably more detail to both.

Reaction to the bill had generally been positive, but some detractors say it has too many rules. However, it is clear that passing the Constitution will make the CR government considerably more democratic.

Constitution Becomes Law

The Council passed a slightly revised version of the constitution proposal given to them earlier this month. The document puts specific limits on the power of each branch of government and the military. The Arch Chancellor signed it in a quiet ceremony with very few press. He was heard to have said "and here comes the next step in the plan."

An Executive Romance?

A picture leaked onto the internet today shows Arch Chancellor Mitchell Lee and Sectary of the Environment Hadiyya Donald in a very close embrace in the Executive Palace Gardens. Kosti has made no comment on the picture but tabloid rumors have ranged from reasonable explanations such as: Mitchell and Hadiyya faught side-by-side, they have a history together that would naturally bring any two people closer; to the extreme: Lee must be ill, therefore he needs a woman to make him a heir as soon as possible.

After close inspection, it was determined that the picture was not edited in any way, though its origins are unclear.  However, it is the only sure fact that that can be written about in this story.

Atrocities in the Far East!

Reports this morning coming out of Bangkok, Thailand confirm fears that their western neighbor, East Xiebiguo has commenced a secretive and brutal ethnic cleansing and take over of the small nation which has no real organized military and a loose governmental structure.

The pictures out of Thailand are extremely graphic and demonstrate a genocidal rage not seen since the days that Bashir's forces devastated Darfur.

We will continue to bring you the latest updates as this story continues to unfold. We are about to show you some of the images of civilian devastation coming from Thailand. Again, we warn that these images are extremely graphic and discretion is advised.

Breaking News

Arch Chancellor announces "Crucial Press Conference."

Live in Kosti,
This is Samuel Maneli, reporting for RNC News. Everyone is expecting the Arch Chancellor here in less than 5 minutes, but this unscheduled, highly hushed press conference has everyone wondering what's next. Since the last conference of this nature shook up the long standing administration, no one knows what surprises this one will bring.

Mitchell Lee arrives.

"Confederates, we live in revolutionary times. This youthful and vibrant nation speaks to that fact. However, we are no longer a rushed consolidation out of a bloody revolution, the Confederate Republics stands as a world superpower. We are an effective nuclear state, posses an advanced and well staffed standing army, and we are recognizing our economic potential.

Thus, we must also realize that our political system must change. This nation must exist beyond the band of lucky rebels who were good shots and great orators that whipped up the forces that overthrew the brutality of the old governments and opened up a liberal economic community the likes that Africa had never seen before.

In accordance with that, I must announce that my name will not appear on the ballot this 9th of June, election day."

Everyone in the room, perhaps everyone in the nation gasp.

"I reached this conclusion after a great deal of consideration of all the possibilities and the consequences. I have enjoyed this time as a leader more than anything I can ever imagine. But I has been nearly eleven years of wonderful service, and it is time for a change. I love this nation and I know I have forged it strong enough to run itself perpetually. I have a few other projects I would like to complete in this life, and I have put in all the work I possibly can into this one. I will remain accessible, whatever new leader there maybe will be able to consult me at any time, I will continue to have a public address where you, the citizens of this Confederacy may write me freely, but the next great step for this nation is to be come truly democratic. With me at the helm, that simply cannot happen. Thank you, have a great night."

Camera turns back to reporter. "Wow, we just never know what is going to come next any longer. No one knows a CR without Mitchell Lee at the helm, but I guess we will soon enough. This is RNC, as always, bringing you the latest in politics."

Three top officials found shot in Executive Mansion in Kosti

Details are still sketchy at this time, but it appears that an assassination attempt on the Sectary of International affairs, Juno Nikus, the Sectary of Defense, Colbert Klien, and the Vice Arch Chancellor, Kwau Tau has been at least somewhat successful. First responders report finding Mr. Tau and Mr. Klien dead on the scene, however Ms. Nikus is alive but in critical condition.

Reports on motive range from an inside coup attempt to revenge for the rumored but not officially disclosed assassination attempt on the top Officials in Ethiopia last September.

More details as they become available.
