First mentioned in Roman journals during their expansion years, Teumessia as it is known today has always been a collection of small city-states sharing a regional, ethnic, and linguistic identity. Thus it wasn’t until recently that Teumessia was all encompassed into one country. After a war between the Praetoria and Adamantine in 1932, the Teumessian States were divided so that that majority of the country was under control of Praetoria, while the Eastern edge was possessed by Adamantine. After the Adamantine Revolution of 1951, the eastern part became the first section to organize into the Community of Teumessian City-States, later shortened to Community of Teumessian States. The constitution that all cities within the Community would have to abide by was passed in 1953, and the first chief executive and UN delegate was chosen in 1955. Over the next 30 years the western half joined the union as Praetoria fractured internally, and by 1985 the last city-state and its encompassing lands were admitted to the community. Despite it’s lack of central government it has held up peacefully since then, though issues in economic polarization and globalization are beginning to cause issues within certain regions. |

VIII. Economy |
|
Traditionally an agriculturally based economy, over 60% of Teumessia states is considered arable, though due to a strong environmental faction much of it is still forests. Among the land that is used for agriculture, over 50% are small family run farms, which grow wheat and barley. The other 50% are dedicated to dairy cows. Thus the economy fluctuates somewhat sharply based on the demand for cheese, milk, and beer, which most private enterprises are based off. It’s city based factories focus mostly on “Teumessian made” home products, of which the government has desperately, and unsuccessfully, attempted to make a household name. Due to an open social policy though, the biotechnology industry is flourishing in the region and constitutes the majority of economic growth, along with tourism of it’s many forests. |
