Gaining Independence from the Azaziel on June 3rd 2006 in a peaceful handover, Byzantium inherited many legions and all the advanced infrastructure of its mother. Byzantium was ruled by authoritarian Emperors who always fell victim to coups from usurpers, these coups usually happened overnight with most of the population unaware and the coups brought no changes except in the name of each emperor. The recent emperor Theodosius Palaeologus has allowed elections to take place and loosened the grip on the populace, he however maintains the title of Head of State and still has much power behind the Senate. The nation is fanatically Greek nationalist and very traditional. It is also pro European.
