Gaining independence from Zububbu in January 2006, the democratically elected government appeared to rule competently. However, 2 months into the government’s term, much money was spent on the army and much money fell into corrupt hands. A further 2 months later the army began to mutiny into separate factions causing a short but extremely violent period of anarchy in which it is estimated that 50,000 – 150,000 civilians and military personnel were killed. Eventually a Moslem faction under the Ayatollah Hassin gained control of the country. Ossmann rapidly became a rogue state during Hassin’s reign, attacking non – Muslim embassies in Dar Es Salaam and financing bomb attacks against civilians in Africaan States among other things. Africaan States invaded in May 2006 and by the end of the month, 4 more nations had done the same and at least 200,000 people were dead. The Ayatollah was overthrown but managed to escape justice and left behind him a shattered country. Recent elections have taken place and the new cabinet is now repairing the country.

VIII. Economy

Ossmann is one of the poorest countries in the world. The economy depends heavily on agriculture, which accounts for almost half of GDP, provides 85% of exports, and employs 80% of the work force. Topography and climatic conditions, however, limit cultivated crops to only 4% of the land area. Industry traditionally featured the processing of agricultural products and light consumer goods. Foreign Aid and bilateral donors have provided funds to rehabilitate Tanzania's out-of-date economic infrastructure and to alleviate poverty. Long-term growth through 2005 featured a pickup in industrial production and a substantial increase in output of minerals, led by gold. Recent banking reforms have helped increase private-sector growth and investment. Continued donor assistance and solid macroeconomic policies supported real GDP growth of more than 6% in 2005.
