Office of Multidimensional Security  Affairs

The Director of the Department of Multidimensional Security is responsible for keeping the AUSG apprised of the emerging threats to peace and stability in the region.

The Secretary General appoints the Director from the member states of the Organization with the support of his or her nation government.

The obligations of the Director of Multidimensional Security are as follow:

· The Director will weigh in on the issues containing security implications for the region and influence the debate based on his unique experience and purview.

· In compliance with AU General Assembly Resolution 042: “Against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, and other Related Materials,” the director will report to the General Assembly on the compliance of states with the resolution and produce a list of the greatest trafficking states in firearms, ammunition, explosives, and other related materials.

· The Director will also maintain the region informed of conflicts by providing a “conflict log” of major security events in the region.  The format is below.

Qualifications:  The AU Secretary General will appoint an individual from a state in the region, who is active, strategic in thinking, unbiased in his characterization of conflicts, and committed to peace in the region above all else. 

Budget: The Office of Political Affairs will receive $50 million from the AU budget every 3 months. These funds are provided to the government of the historian’s home state, but remain under his/her control.
